New Orleans: A study has found that drinking coffee in the morning could be better for your health than sipping it all day long. Researchers looked at over 40,000 adults in the U.S. to see how the timing of coffee consumption affects health.

They discovered two main groups: those who enjoy their coffee before noon and those who drink it throughout the day. About 36% were morning drinkers, while 14% sipped coffee all day.

Led by experts from Tulane University, the study tracked participants for nearly ten years. Sadly, 4,295 people passed away during this time.

After considering various factors, the researchers found that morning coffee drinkers had a 16% lower risk of dying compared to non-coffee drinkers. They were also 31% less likely to die from heart disease.

Interestingly, all-day coffee drinkers didn’t see the same benefits. The study noted that higher coffee intake was linked to a lower risk of death, but only for those who drank it in the morning.

Dr. Lu Qi, the lead author, mentioned that drinking coffee in the morning might be more beneficial for heart health than having it later in the day. He emphasized that this study is the first to explore the timing of coffee consumption and its health effects.

Dr. Qi suggested that drinking coffee later might disrupt our body’s natural rhythms, affecting hormones and potentially increasing cardiovascular risks. He called for more research to confirm these findings.

In a related editorial, Professor Thomas Luuscher pointed out that many all-day coffee drinkers experience sleep issues. He concluded that there’s strong evidence supporting the idea that morning coffee is likely healthier.

Interestingly, the study found similar results for both caffeinated and decaffeinated coffee drinkers, indicating that the timing of coffee consumption is key.
