A history teacher faces consequences after crashing into parked cars while under the influence, raising concerns about his future.
Birstall: So, there’s this history teacher named Thomas McKay who really messed up. He crashed his car into some parked vehicles, causing a bit of a domino effect. It’s a real head-scratcher, especially since he’s been teaching at Loughborough Grammar School for a while now.
This all went down on June 17 last year. McKay admitted to having a few drinks before getting behind the wheel. When the police showed up, he failed the breath test and was taken in for a blood test, which revealed he was over twice the legal limit. Yikes!
In court, the prosecutor laid out the details. McKay hit a parked car, which then hit two others. He told the officers he’d just had a few cans, but that didn’t help his case. His lawyer mentioned that McKay had been feeling a lot of pressure at work, but he didn’t use that as an excuse for his actions.
Despite this incident, the school decided to keep him on staff. They even provided him with counseling. The head of history at the school said this behavior was totally out of character for him. McKay ended up getting a 17-month driving ban and had to pay a hefty fine.
