A father involved in a crash with his son in the car insists he only had one beer before driving
Leicester: So, there was this dad, Thomas Simms, who crashed his car on the A46 while his son was with him. He said he only had one beer before hitting the road. Can you believe that?
It all went down on December 11 last year. Thomas was driving along when he suddenly crashed into the car in front of him. When the police showed up, they thought he might be drunk.
Turns out, he failed the breath test and got arrested. His breathalyzer reading was 41 micrograms of alcohol per 100ml, while the legal limit is 35. Not good!
In court, he said he was just picking up his son and had one drink on an empty stomach. He admitted it was irresponsible and apologized, saying he hasn’t touched a drink since.
The prosecutor pointed out that having a child in the car made things worse for him. Plus, he had a previous drink-driving conviction from 2014.
In the end, Thomas got a 14-month driving ban and a hefty fine of £650, along with some court costs and a victim surcharge. Lesson learned, I guess!
