Suffolk: A dog behavior expert is really worried about a breed that’s gaining traction in the UK. The Cane Corso, which some say is even more dangerous than the notorious XL bully, is becoming more popular.

With the restrictions on XL bullies, folks are now looking at Cane Corsos, which are Italian mastiffs that trace back to ancient Roman war dogs. This shift has raised eyebrows among dog specialists who fear these dogs could be a real threat.

Rob Alleyne, who runs the Canine Instructor Academy, didn’t hold back. He called the Cane Corso “like an XL bully on steroids” and labeled it a “killing machine.” He’s noticed more people are interested in this breed lately.

Alleyne pointed out that the ban on certain breeds might just push people toward even more dangerous dogs that don’t need to be registered. He told the Times that this could lead to serious issues if Cane Corsos become too popular.

He’s seen this pattern before. When Pit Bull Terriers were banned, people turned to even more dangerous breeds, like the XL bully. Now, it seems history is repeating itself.

His concerns come after a recent incident where a woman in her thirties had to undergo plastic surgery after trying to break up a fight between her XL bully and a Cane Corso at home.

Currently, there are about 220 Cane Corso puppies for sale online, with prices ranging from £380 to £2,000. The expert believes the rise in Cane Corsos is a direct result of the crackdown on XL bullies, which have been illegal to own in the UK without special permits since last February.

This law requires owners to keep their XL bullies securely housed and muzzled in public. The ban was introduced after several attacks, including a serious incident involving a four-year-old boy in Liverpool.
