Bridgend: Suzi George faced a tough reality when doctors told her she was too heavy for surgery. At 38, she weighed nearly 18 stone and stood just 5ft 3ins tall. Her BMI was around 45, which was a real wake-up call for her.

Feeling embarrassed but determined, she joined Slimming World in November 2022. Back then, she was wearing a size 24. Fast forward two years, and she’s lost over six stone and now fits into size 14 clothes.

Suzi has struggled with chronic pain for years, which made it hard for her to move around. This led to emotional eating and weight gain. She felt like she was mourning the activities she could no longer enjoy, and it was time for a change.

Growing up, Suzi faced bullying about her size, but she learned to cope with humor. However, the teasing took a toll on her self-esteem. She often yo-yo dieted, losing weight only to gain it back again. But this time, she committed to Slimming World and found the support she needed.

For the first 30 weeks, she saw consistent weight loss. Even when she hit a plateau, she kept attending classes, which helped her stay on track. Suzi learned to make healthier versions of her favorite meals and discovered the importance of incorporating ‘speed’ foods into her diet.

While her weight loss hasn’t cured her health issues, it has allowed her to qualify for the surgery she needs. Her BMI has dropped from 45 to 28, and she’s lost significant inches from her waist, hips, and chest.

Suzi credits her Slimming World group for their unwavering support. They’ve celebrated her achievements, making her feel like she truly belongs. With their encouragement, she’s become ‘Woman of the Year 2024’ and ‘Slimming World Icon 2024.’
