Explore the iconic sites where Gavin & Stacey was filmed in Wales
Barry: So, have you ever been to Barry Island? It’s a must-visit if you’re a fan of Gavin & Stacey. The show is coming back for one last Christmas special, and while we won’t see new episodes, we can still check out the filming spots.
Most of the show was filmed in south Wales, not Essex like some might think. The final episode airs on Christmas Day, and it’s packed with familiar locations. Plus, you can enjoy a beach day while you’re there!
Barry Island is the star of the show. It’s where Stacey works at Marco’s café, and Nessa hangs out at the arcades. You can even snap a pic by the character sign at Marco’s. It’s a great spot for a stroll, and you might find some fun memorabilia along the way.
Then there’s Trinity Street, where Gwen and Stacey live. It’s just a short walk from the beach, and fans often gather there to catch a glimpse of the cast. They even got to celebrate Mathew Horne’s birthday while filming!
Another cool spot is The Pumphouse at Barry Docks. It’s been transformed into a leisure complex, but it was a filming location for the show too. The cast was spotted there, all dressed up for a night out.
And don’t forget the railway tunnel! It’s got this awesome lighting installation and features in the new episode. Gavin and Smithy walk through it, adding a bit of flair to the finale.
Now, Pam and Mick’s house is in Dinas Powys, but the owners aren’t too keen on visitors. Still, it’s a lovely area worth checking out. The Colcot Inn is another filming spot, doubling as Gavin and Smithy’s local pub.
For a bit of nostalgia, you can visit Porthkerry Caravan Park, where Nessa and Neil lived. It’s a residential area now, but the views are stunning. St Peter’s Church is also a key location, hosting memorable scenes like Neil’s christening.
And if you’re a Marks & Spencer fan, you’ll love that some scenes were filmed at Culverhouse Cross, even though it’s supposed to be in Essex. The Wales Millennium Centre also played a role in the show, standing in for an airport.
Lastly, the Tadross Hotel and The Ship in Barry are iconic spots for fans. They’ve hosted some classic moments from the series. So, if you’re planning a visit, you’ll have plenty to explore!
