Exciting news! The beloved playground in Kensington Gardens will undergo a £3 million upgrade to enhance accessibility and play for all kids
Kensington: Big changes are coming to the memorial playground dedicated to Diana, Princess of Wales. This spot is super popular, attracting over a million visitors each year. But it’s time for a facelift!
The Royal Parks charity is stepping in with a hefty £3 million to revamp the playground in Kensington Gardens, right near where Diana used to live. It’s all about making it better for everyone.
Originally opened in 2000 to celebrate what would have been Diana’s 39th birthday, the playground has a fun Peter Pan theme. But now, they’re swapping out the old pirate ship for a brand-new galleon that’s designed to be more accessible for kids of all abilities.
The Royal Parks team promises to keep the playful spirit of the original while adding features that encourage creative play for everyone. The playground will close for about six months, from autumn 2025 to spring 2026, while the work gets done.
So, if you’re a fan of this magical place, get ready for some exciting updates in a couple of years!
