The major bus route in Dewsbury has been saved from cuts, ensuring continued service for local passengers amid driver shortages
Dewsbury: Great news for bus riders! The 212 bus route, which connects Dewsbury to Wakefield, is back on track after being scrapped by Arriva. They had to cut it due to a driver shortage, but the West Yorkshire Combined Authority stepped in to save the day.
Arriva’s Area Director, Kim Cain, admitted that their services haven’t been up to par lately. They’re working hard to fix that, though. They’ve hired over 300 new drivers this year, but they still need to make some changes to improve things.
Now, Yorkshire Buses will take over the 212 route, and they’re making it even better. Starting January 5, there will be a new timetable that syncs well with the 213 service. Plus, they’re adding more evening trips and an hourly Sunday service!
Mayor Tracy Brabin is thrilled about this development. She said it’s crucial to keep services running for the community, especially when Arriva has been cutting back. It’s all about keeping West Yorkshire connected.
Steve Carr, the Managing Director of Yorkshire Buses, is also excited. They’re ready to roll out the new services and have even added 11 new team members to help out. It’s a win-win for everyone!
For those wanting to check out the new timetable, you can find it on their website. Stay tuned for more updates!
