Devon has its share of dangerous criminals, with nine men sentenced for serious offenses at Exeter Crown Court
Exeter: Devon might seem like a safe place, but it has some pretty dangerous criminals. A recent court ruling highlighted nine men who were deemed a serious threat by judges.
These guys range from child rapists to violent offenders. Some of them might never see the outside world again, while others got shorter sentences. It’s a mixed bag of justice.
One judge even mentioned that the law needs to change to better handle these dangerous individuals. It’s a real eye-opener to see how some of these cases unfold.
Take Thomas Huang, for instance. This schoolboy attacked two students and a teacher with hammers at his boarding school. He’s now serving life for attempted murder. The judge was clear: he’s a risk to the public.
Then there’s Andrew Street, a 64-year-old who abused three children. He got 30 years for his horrific actions. The judge called him a “dangerous paedophile predator,” and rightly so.
Woody Spencer from Exeter streamed himself abusing a child online. He received a 25-year sentence, and the judge said he’s exceptionally dangerous. Even when he gets out, he’ll need close supervision.
Owen Rendall, another predator, was sentenced to 16 years for raping three young women. His actions were brutal, and he showed no remorse. The police are glad he’s off the streets.
Marcus Hill, a tattoo artist, turned violent and attacked two women, leaving one unconscious. He’s got a history of violence, and the judge noted the lack of options for dealing with someone like him.
Jason Leat raped a woman after a night out. He was convicted of multiple sexual offenses and showed no concern for consent. The police praised the victims for their bravery in coming forward.
Drew Davey attacked two vulnerable men with a broom handle, causing serious injuries. He got 10 years, plus extra time for being a danger to society.
Merwais Nasiri tried to kidnap a drunken student outside a nightclub. Although no sexual offense occurred, his intentions were clear, and he was sentenced to five and a half years.
Lastly, Aaron Bennett was convicted of multiple sexual offenses against children and received a 28-year sentence. The judge emphasized the psychological impact on the victims.
These cases show that while Devon may be safe overall, there are still serious threats lurking in the shadows. It’s a reminder that justice needs to be vigilant.
