The Ilfracombe Academy shines as England’s most improved school for disadvantaged students, showcasing impressive progress in key stage 4 results.
Ilfracombe: Students and staff at The Ilfracombe Academy are celebrating big news. Their school is the most improved in England for disadvantaged students. They also ranked second for overall student progress based on the latest key stage 4 results.
The Department for Education published confirmed GCSE result league tables. The Ilfracombe Academy earned an above-average Progress 8 score. This means students achieve up to half a grade higher in each subject compared to similar students nationwide.
Progress 8 is a key performance measure for schools. It encourages schools to focus on improving all students, not just those on the edge of passing or aiming for top grades.
This year, the school is rated third in Devon for overall performance at key stage 4. Students were thrilled when they received their GCSE results last summer. A fantastic 59.2% of students scored a grade 5 or above in English and maths, well above the national average.
The Ilfracombe Academy also ranks 12th in Devon for its Attainment 8 score. This score reflects the average progress of students across their eight best subjects at GCSE level.
Steve Rogers, the headteacher, expressed pride in the achievements of students and staff. He highlighted the recognition as the second most improved school in England for student progress and the most improved for disadvantaged students. He noted the hard work and dedication of the entire school community.
Rogers emphasized their commitment to providing a child-centered education that reflects Christian values. The school aims for high academic standards and strives to equip all students with essential knowledge and skills for life.
