Bridgend: So, there’s been a bit of a mess in Wales. A construction company, Llanmoor Development Co Ltd, got slapped with a hefty fine for polluting a stream while building homes. They let construction waste flow into the water from their Parc Tondu estate, which is a big no-no.

The company admitted to the charges after anglers from the Ogmore Angling Association caught wind of what was happening. They noticed silt and mud getting into the Nant Kenfig tributary, which eventually flows into the River Ogmore. Not cool, right?

Natural Resources Wales stepped in and found some pretty alarming levels of suspended solids in the water. This kind of pollution can really mess with the local ecosystem, harming fish, plants, and insects. It’s a big deal because it affects spawning and hatching too.

In court, Llanmoor was fined £4,000 and had to cough up an additional £6,280 in costs, plus a £190 victim surcharge. All in all, they’re on the hook for over £10,000, which they need to pay up within 28 days.

Fiona Hourahine from Natural Resources Wales made it clear that companies have to follow environmental regulations to protect wildlife and people. Llanmoor knew the risks but didn’t take the right steps to prevent the pollution. They’re going to be keeping a closer eye on things moving forward, thanks to the anglers who reported the issue.
