A woman was left heartbroken after losing her life savings to a cruel scam that tricked her into transferring nearly £70,000
Hull: A woman was left shattered after losing her savings of almost £70,000 in a scam that felt like a nightmare. She thought she was protecting her money but ended up being tricked by heartless fraudsters.
It all started when she got a text about a missed postal delivery fee. She clicked a link, thinking it was legit, and ended up transferring a huge chunk of her savings to a scammer’s account. The whole thing spiraled out of control when she received a call claiming her bank account was under attack.
In a panic, she moved nearly £20,000 to what she believed was a safer account. Sadly, it was just a trap. By the end, she lost a total of £69,566, and it seems her bank didn’t help her out at all.
She described the mental toll it took on her, saying it was “horrific.” She couldn’t sleep and felt constantly drained. It haunted her day and night, and she couldn’t shake the feeling of being foolish for falling for it.
Her confidence took a massive hit, and she felt completely lost. All her hard-earned savings were gone, and she didn’t know where to turn. The aftermath was tough, especially dealing with the bank while already feeling so low.
Another woman also fell victim to a similar scam, thinking she was renting a property. She ended up sending £1,500 to the same scammer. It’s just heartbreaking how these fraudsters prey on innocent people.
Eventually, the scammer, Dan Gheorghe, was caught. He admitted to transferring criminal property and was given a suspended sentence. The judge made it clear that if he messed up again, he’d face serious consequences.
It’s a tough lesson for everyone involved, and it really shows how careful we need to be with our money and personal information. Scams like this can happen to anyone, and it’s a reminder to stay vigilant.
