A mother and her young son are heartbroken after a suspected arson destroyed their caravan and belongings in Cornwall
Cornwall: A mum named Kathryn Wills is feeling completely shattered after a fire took everything from her caravan. She and her little boy, Leo, were lucky to be away when it happened, but it’s still a tough blow.
The fire destroyed all their belongings, including Leo’s Christmas gifts, which he had just received. Kathryn said they’re left with “absolutely nothing” and now face the daunting task of starting over.
She shared her heartbreak with CornwallLive, saying, “I work full time as a nurse, and it’s just me and my son. Everything I’ve worked for was in that caravan.” It’s a real struggle for her, especially since she didn’t have insurance.
Kathryn had made her caravan a cozy home over the past five years. She had a little conservatory and a shed, but now it’s all gone. “It’s soul destroying,” she said, reflecting on the loss.
Her son is also feeling the impact. He keeps asking about his beloved Eeyore toy, which he’s had since birth. Kathryn had to break the news that it was lost in the fire, and it’s been tough on him.
To help with the cleanup and to start rebuilding, Kathryn set up a GoFundMe page. So far, she’s raised nearly £2,000 towards her £10,000 goal, and she’s really thankful for the support.
“The money will help with clearing the site. We need skips, diggers, and a lot of help,” she explained. She’s also hoping for donations of a caravan or other essentials. The kindness from the community has really touched her heart.
In the meantime, Devon and Cornwall Police have confirmed that a man has been charged with arson related to this incident. It’s a tough situation, but Kathryn is determined to rebuild.
