The Mayor’s inclusive birthday party for kids with autism is back on for January 12 in Derry after being postponed due to Storm Ashley
Derry: A big birthday bash for kids with autism and complex needs is happening next weekend. It was postponed because of Storm Ashley back in October.
The Mayor of Derry and Strabane, Lillian Seenoi-Barr, is really excited about this. Her son Brian has autism and a severe learning disability, so she knows how important this is. She invited kids aged 4 to 18 to join in the fun.
Originally, they had to cancel the event when the storm hit and the council closed parks and play areas. But now, it’s all set for January 12 at the Foyle Arena!
The Mayor wants to make sure every child feels included. She said, “It’s heartbreaking to think some kids miss out on parties because of their needs.”
She’s all about making this a special day for those who might not get invited to other parties. “Everyone deserves to be part of the fun,” she added.
It’s an open invitation, so if you want to join, just register online. There’ll be games, cake, and a whole lot of fun!
Dawn McKendry, a Senior Employment Officer and a mom of three neurodivergent kids, is thrilled about the Mayor’s initiative. She knows firsthand how tough it can be when kids don’t get invited to parties.
“This event will create a safe space for every child,” she said, showing her support for the Mayor’s efforts.
The party will have three different sessions: one for kids aged 4 to 7, another for 8 to 13, and the last one for teens aged 14 to 18. It’s going to be a blast!
Make sure to register your child’s spot through the online booking form. It’s going to be a day to remember!
