Derby: Two Halifax bank branches are closing soon. The Derby city centre branch and the Long Eaton branch will shut down. This decision follows recent closures by Natwest and Lloyds Bank in the area.

Halifax announced these closures due to more people using online banking. They noted fewer customers visiting branches in person. The Long Eaton branch will close on September 18, and the Derby East Street branch will close on October 23.

A Halifax spokesperson explained that they monitor how customers use their branches. Most customers now prefer mobile or online banking. They assured customers they can still use Bank of Scotland and Lloyds Bank branches for their banking needs.

Customers from Long Eaton can visit the Lloyds Bank on Tamworth Road. Those in Derby can go to the Lloyds Bank on St Peters Street. This news comes shortly after Lloyds and Natwest announced more branch closures in Derbyshire.

Natwest plans to close several branches, including those in Allenton and Long Eaton. The closing dates for these branches are in May and June. Lloyds has already closed its Allenton branch and will close others soon.

Both banks cited the rise of online banking as a reason for these closures. Local residents have expressed concern about the impact on the community. A local councillor called the news “unsurprising” but still a “real shame.”

Some residents worry about the elderly and disabled who rely on in-person banking. One local said that while she doesn’t need face-to-face banking, others might struggle without it. She hopes solutions are found for those affected by these changes.
