The former care home in Mickleover is set for demolition as plans for redevelopment are underway
Derby: So, it looks like the old care home in Mickleover is on the chopping block. Bramble Brook House, which has been sitting empty for about seven years, is set to be demolished. The council wants to clear the site for some new development plans.
According to the council, they’re currently figuring out what to do with the land on Rough Heanor Road. They’ve hinted that more details will come out later this year, so stay tuned!
The council has already put in a planning application to get the place bulldozed. It’s been boarded up for ages, and you can see the area is all fenced off with public notices about the possible demolition.
They’ve said keeping the building isn’t really an option anymore. If all goes well with the planning permission, they hope to start the demolition between late January and mid-March.
The site has three buildings, a sewage pumping station, and some parking areas. It’s also pretty close to the A38 slip roads, which could be a factor in whatever they plan to build next.
When Bramble Brook House closed back in June 2017, it was part of a bigger plan by the council to save money by possibly privatizing several care homes. We should hear back from the planning officers soon about the demolition decision.
