Flintshire: Christmas Day is usually a time for family and celebration, but for NHS staff, it’s just another day on the job. They’re out there saving lives while most of us are enjoying our holiday. It’s a big deal, and they deserve all the thanks we can give.

Take Josh Williams, for example. He’s an Advanced Paramedic Practitioner who’ll be on duty from 9 am to 9 pm. He’s got a new baby at home, but he knows his work is crucial. He’s expecting a busy day, especially with respiratory issues and mental health calls. It’s tough, but he finds meaning in helping others.

Then there’s Danielle Bunyan, an emergency department nurse at Grange University Hospital. For her, Christmas Day in A&E is just like any other day. She’ll be dealing with everything from heart attacks to kids getting hurt on their new toys. But she’s got a positive attitude, bringing some festive cheer to the shift.

Dave Fleming, a senior mental health practitioner, is also on the front lines. He’s working on a new mental health response vehicle, helping those in crisis. He knows the holidays can be tough for many, and he’s there to listen and provide support. It’s all about being there for people when they need it most.

Andy Eglinton, a senior physiotherapist, is another one of the dedicated staff. He’ll be working with major trauma patients, making sure they get the care they need. He’s looking forward to going home after his shift to celebrate with his family.

Deepa Joseph, a cardiothoracic nurse, is also on duty. She’s supporting patients who can’t be with their families on Christmas Day. She believes her work is a calling, and she tries to create a festive atmosphere for her patients. After her shift, it’s all about family time for her.

These NHS heroes are a reminder of the dedication and compassion that exists in healthcare. While we enjoy our holidays, they’re out there making a difference, and we should all take a moment to appreciate their hard work.
