The decision on the new Eastwood leisure centre and theatre has been postponed after a planning meeting was cancelled, now set for next month
Giffnock: So, there’s been a bit of a hold-up with the plans for a new leisure centre and theatre in Eastwood. The council was supposed to meet to discuss it, but that meeting got cancelled. Now, they’re looking to reschedule for next month.
A council spokesperson mentioned they needed to push the meeting back to make sure everything was properly publicized, following planning rules. It sounds like they want to do this right.
The project is pretty ambitious. They want to replace the old Eastwood Park leisure centre and theatre with something new and exciting. The plans include a big swimming pool, a smaller training pool, and a games hall. Plus, there’s a theatre with a decent-sized auditorium.
But not everyone is on board. The parent council from St Ninian’s High School has raised some concerns about parking and safety for the kids. They feel like the project might take away some of the amenities the students enjoy.
On the flip side, local MSP Jackson Carlaw thinks this new facility is much needed. He believes it could really benefit the community and transform the area.
So, we’ll have to keep an eye out for the new meeting date. It’ll be posted on the council’s website once it’s confirmed. Fingers crossed it all goes smoothly!
