A decision is imminent regarding a proposed farmers’ market in Buckover, raising local concerns about traffic and pollution.
Thornbury: So, there’s this farmers’ market that might pop up in Buckover, just east of Thornbury. The council is set to make a decision on it this week. They’ve got an application for street trading outside the Landscape Centre on Cutts Heath Road.
If it gets the green light, the market would be open every day, selling local farm products. Hours would be from 8 am to 6 pm on weekdays, and a bit later on weekends. Buckovers, the folks behind it, already run a garden centre and events business there.
But not everyone’s on board. Some neighbors are worried about the extra traffic and pollution. They’ve written to the council, voicing their concerns. One neighbor mentioned that the area isn’t very populated, so most visitors would likely drive, which could lead to noise and air pollution.
Another neighbor pointed out that there’s no public transport, so parking could become a real issue. The roads are narrow and without proper markings, making it tricky for cars and even emergency vehicles to navigate.
According to the application, they’re planning for up to 30 traders, with seating for customers to enjoy their food. Buckovers had tried to host a Christmas market last November, but it fell through due to a mix-up with the council. Fingers crossed this one goes smoothly!
