The deadline for submitting nomination papers for two council seats is January 17, following a recent resignation.
Pontypool: So, there’s a deadline coming up for those nomination papers. If you want to fill two council seats, you need to get your papers in by January 17. This is all happening because Labour councillor Sue Malson stepped down last November.
You can drop off your nomination papers at the Torfaen Civic Centre. They’re open from 9:30 AM to noon and then again from 1 PM to 4 PM on weekdays, except Fridays when they close at 4 PM. Just make sure you don’t miss that deadline!
If there are more candidates than seats, elections will be held on February 13. You can grab the nomination papers at the Civic Centre or download them from the Electoral Commission’s website.
Oh, and if you’re 16 or older, you can vote in these council elections. Just remember to register by midnight on January 28. You can do that online, which is super easy!
Labour has a solid majority on the council, with 17 members, while the opposition is made up of two independent groups and a small Reform UK group. So, it’ll be interesting to see how this all plays out!
