A dad’s social media activity led police to uncover his drug dealing operation
Goole: So, there was this guy, Lewis Blaydes, who thought he could run a little drug business on the side. He got caught when police stopped a car he was in and found a phone loaded with messages about drug deals.
They searched his place and found a safe with heroin and cocaine worth over £2,400. Talk about a bad day! The police had been keeping an eye on him, and it all came crashing down.
Blaydes, just 25, admitted to having the drugs with plans to sell them. The court heard he was caught in the passenger seat of a car, and they found his phone and keys. They opened his safe and found bags of drugs inside.
His phone had Facebook messages from 2019 to 2021, where he was chatting about selling cocaine and setting up deliveries. When questioned by the police, he just stayed quiet.
His lawyer argued that he was a low risk for reoffending and had no past convictions. He was working hard on the railway and had a family to support. The judge noted that while he had a little operation going, he wasn’t using or selling drugs anymore.
Instead of a long prison sentence, the judge gave him a two-year suspended sentence. He told Blaydes that if he messed up again, he’d be in serious trouble. It was a chance for him to turn things around, but the ball was in his court now.
