A father mistakenly sent a lewd photo to an undercover officer he thought was a 13-year-old girl
Liverpool: A dad named Paul Smith thought he was chatting with a 13-year-old girl online. Instead, he was caught in a police sting. He sent a picture of his backside during their conversations on Snapchat and Kik.
Smith, who works at Jaguar Land Rover, had a history of trouble with the law. He previously faced charges for having indecent images of children. The court heard he had been messaging the decoy for about a month, calling her “hot” and asking for “naughty little pics.”
When he was caught, he was already on a sexual harm prevention order from a previous conviction. His lawyer claimed he was trying to get help for his issues, but the judge wasn’t convinced.
In the end, Smith was sentenced to 20 months in prison. The judge pointed out that despite previous rehabilitation efforts, he still sought out inappropriate communications with someone he believed to be a minor. Smith will also have to register as a sex offender for the next ten years.
