A father faces court after a drunken attack on his sister left her injured and terrified
Ingleby Barwick: So, there was this wild incident involving a dad named Christopher Parker. He really lost it with his sister, Joanne Taylor, during a drunken episode back in 2022.
Apparently, he was staying with her for about 18 months when things took a turn for the worse. After she fell down the stairs, he started kicking and punching her, which is just awful.
Joanne told the court that he was saying some pretty nasty stuff, like he couldn’t wait for her to drop dead. Can you believe that? It’s shocking how low some people can go.
There were messages exchanged between Joanne and Parker’s ex-wife that showed just how bad it got. Joanne described being kicked and even had her hair pulled. Body camera footage showed her accusing him of slapping her and hitting her against the bannister.
During the court hearing, Parker claimed that Joanne was the one who followed him into the kitchen and that she was drunk. He said he just elbowed her, which caused her to fall. But the judge wasn’t buying it.
Judge Richard Bennett pointed out that Joanne had her suspicions about Parker being the one who was drinking. She had sent messages saying he kicked and punched her, leaving her with a swollen eye. It was so serious that her ex-wife told her to call the police.
When the police arrived, Joanne said she was more worried about her back than her eye. She mentioned that Parker was screaming at her to get back up, which is just terrifying.
Parker even admitted to kicking her, but later claimed he was being sarcastic. The judge noted that he was slurring his words and had a selective memory. It was clear he was under the influence when he lost his temper.
In the end, the judge found him guilty of assault. He told Parker he would be going to prison, with sentencing set for February 6. It’s a sad situation all around.
