A father of four tragically passed away in his bathroom after being discharged with painkillers
Stoke-on-Trent: A dad of four, Kevin Burnett, sadly died in his bathroom on Boxing Day. Just days earlier, he had been sent home from the hospital with painkillers after complaining of chest pains.
Firefighters had to break down the bathroom door to get to him. Unfortunately, by the time they reached Kevin, he was already gone. He was only 47 years old.
Kevin had been feeling unwell for about a week before his death. His family is devastated and believes that doctors might have overlooked a serious health issue.
His daughter Kelsey shared that on the day he passed, he got up early and then collapsed behind the bathroom door. The fire service had to cut the door to get in, but it was too late.
He had visited the hospital a few days before and was given co-codamol. The family is still waiting for answers about the cause of his death, suspecting that something important was missed during his hospital visits.
Kelsey described her dad as someone who was all about family. He leaves behind his three other daughters, Lucy, Chloe, and Sophie, along with his partner Gemma, whom he married last year. The girls are supporting their mum as they all cope with this tragedy.
Kelsey expressed how awful it has been, saying it ruined Christmas for them. However, she’s grateful they had one last happy Christmas together. It was a good day, and she’s thankful for that memory.
With funeral costs piling up, the family has set up an online fundraiser to help cover the £8,000 needed. Kelsey mentioned it feels like they’re begging, but they just can’t afford that amount on their own.
They received a rough estimate of £7,000 just for the service and plot, not including the gravestone and flowers. All in all, it’s going to be around £8,500.
So far, they’ve raised over £3,000 through donations from friends, family, and the GoFundMe page. Kelsey’s mum is now alone, and her youngest sister is just 11, making the situation even harder.
They’re taking it day by day, still in shock over what happened. Kelsey described her dad as a funny guy with a great sense of humor who worked hard for his family.
She said it’s heartbreaking and they’re all trying to stick together for their mum, who is devastated. Life will never be the same without him, and they’ll always remember how loved he was.
The family’s GoFundMe campaign is still active, and as of Wednesday morning, it has reached nearly £2,500 of its £3,000 target.
