Liverpool: The summer event was the city at its best.

Cunard’s Queen Anne left the Cruise Terminal on the River Mersey, and wow, what a sight! The atmosphere was electric.

This year, Merseyside has been buzzing with big events. In June, Taylor Swift turned Liverpool into ‘Taylor Town’ for her epic shows at Anfield. The Grand National was a thrill, and in September, the city hosted the Labour party conference.

But the real highlight was in early June when Cunard’s Queen Anne arrived for her naming ceremony. It’s a big deal to bless a ship, and Liverpool turned out in full force.

Cunard has deep roots in our city, dating back to 1840 when they started transatlantic passenger shipping. Their ships have always drawn huge crowds, and this time was no different.

Queen Anne, built for around $600 million, came to Liverpool to celebrate this historic connection. She arrived on June 3, and the city was alive with free entertainment and festivities at the Pier Head.

During the ceremony, Liverpool was named the ship’s godparent, a first for any city! After some local stars smashed the Champagne bottle, the legendary Andrea Bocelli took the stage.

His performance of ‘Time to Say Goodbye’ was breathtaking. You could feel the emotion in the crowd, and the applause went on forever. Then, the real party began!

Craig Charles spun some tunes with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, mixing classics from The Beatles to Sister Sledge. Thousands danced the night away, and a stunning firework display sent Queen Anne off in style. It was Liverpool at its finest.

Cunard loves Liverpool, and they returned later in the year with Queen Mary 2 for her 400th transatlantic crossing. Even the Royal Navy’s HMS Prince of Wales made a stop, drawing huge crowds again.

But nothing topped Queen Anne’s naming ceremony. It was a reminder that when it comes to celebrations, Liverpool truly knows how to shine.
