Two men attacked a homeless man with crutches before stealing his belongings in Swansea, shocking the local community and prompting legal action.
The judge at Swansea Crown Court called the whole thing “truly disturbing.” He mentioned that the attack might have been fueled by alcohol or drugs, which isn’t surprising given the circumstances. Both guys are now off to a young offenders institution, and the judge warned them to think about their futures.
It all started when the homeless man chatted with them and offered to show them where to buy drugs. But when they got to the church and found no one selling, they turned on him. The poor guy tried to escape, but they caught him and really went to town with those crutches. After they beat him up, they rifled through his stuff and took off.
The police were quick to respond and found the two suspects not far from the scene. Kemble had blood on his clothes, which is pretty telling. When they were questioned, they mostly just said “no comment.”
Both Dobbs and Kemble had previous run-ins with the law. Dobbs had a suspended sentence hanging over him, and Kemble was already on a community order. Their lawyers tried to paint them as remorseful, but it’s hard to feel sorry for them after what they did.
The judge made it clear that this kind of behavior won’t be tolerated. He gave them both three years in a young offenders institution, and Dobbs has to serve an extra six months because of his previous sentence. The judge really hopes they’ll think about their actions while they’re inside and maybe turn their lives around.
After the sentencing, a police detective said they won’t stand for violent crime in the community. It’s a tough reminder that we need to look out for each other, especially those who are vulnerable.
