A Lancashire man has been jailed for life after his dog died from starvation and neglect
Lancashire: A heartbreaking case has come to light involving a man who let his dog starve. James Thomas Ashworth has been sentenced for his cruel actions.
His dog, Hades, suffered immensely and ultimately died from starvation. RSPCA officers found him in a terrible state, with his bones sticking out and pressure sores all over.
Ashworth, 41, was sentenced at Blackburn Magistrates’ Court. He had previously reached out to the RSPCA for help, claiming Hades wasn’t eating and needed vet assistance.
After some initial help, things seemed to improve, but it didn’t last. By January 2024, the RSPCA was alerted about Hades’ condition, and it was clear he had been neglected.
Susie Micallef from the RSPCA described the situation as extremely sad. Hades was emaciated and clearly suffering, which is just heartbreaking.
The vet reports showed that Hades had lost a lot of weight and had serious injuries. It was evident that he hadn’t received the care he needed for a long time.
Ashworth was sentenced to 16 weeks in jail and banned from keeping animals for life. It’s a tragic reminder of how important it is to care for our pets properly.
Let’s hope this case raises awareness about animal welfare and encourages people to report neglect when they see it.
