A vape shop owner in Croydon responds to complaints about deliveries blocking the pavement, claiming his business is vital for the area
South Croydon: A vape shop owner is pushing back against complaints from locals about his deliveries blocking the pavement. He feels his business is being unfairly targeted. Mr. Patel, who runs Vape and Mobile, believes he’s helping to revive a struggling high street.
He argues that his shop has filled empty storefronts and become a key player in the area. But some residents, especially older folks, are frustrated with the packages piling up outside, making it tough for them to get by.
During a recent chat, Mr. Patel said, “We’re running a business and contributing more than others have in years. What’s their issue?” He insists he needs to keep deliveries outside because there’s no room inside, even after expanding into three units.
Despite the complaints, he feels he’s being treated unfairly. He mentioned that no one complained when he was getting smaller deliveries, but now that he’s growing, it’s a problem. He’s even considering moving to a bigger place but says it’s not the right time.
Residents have voiced their concerns, saying the blocked pavement makes it hard for those with mobility issues, like wheelchair users. Mr. Patel claims he only puts the pallets out a couple of hours before they arrive, and it’s a necessity for his business.
He also mentioned that a local councillor said the deliveries were “fine.” However, many residents are still unhappy, with one even saying it’s driving them “crazy.” Selsdon Road is busy, and the delivery traffic makes it feel even narrower.
One elderly resident, Mary, commented on how unsightly the stacked packages look. Others have criticized the shop for using adjacent units as storage, saying it makes the area look messy and abandoned.
Despite raising their concerns, residents feel ignored by the authorities. A councillor confirmed that investigations are ongoing but didn’t provide further details. Mr. Patel maintains he’s running his business properly and is taking steps to minimize disruption.
He’s also dealing with thefts from his delivery pallets, showing videos of people stealing vape products during the day. Croydon Council was contacted for a comment but didn’t respond in time.
