A Croydon shop faces a hefty fine after selling a vape to a minor, highlighting the importance of strict regulations.
Croydon: A local business just got hit with a massive fine for selling a vape to a kid. Link Telecom Enterprise Limited, located in Thornton Heath, was fined over £20,000. They got the maximum penalty of £2,500 for the sale itself.
But that’s not all. They racked up another £20,000 for not displaying health warnings and supplier details on their vapes. Plus, they had to cover the council’s costs, which came to about £5,008.13.
The company didn’t even show up in court, so they were found guilty in their absence. Interestingly, the ownership of Link Telecom has changed recently. Croydon Council called this a “cynical” move to dodge the law. Now, the owner has six months to cough up the fine.
Jason Perry, Croydon’s executive Mayor, expressed pride in the Trading Standards team, saying they work hard to keep the community safe from illegal sales. He emphasized that this legal action is part of a broader effort to tackle businesses that don’t follow the rules, which can endanger public health.
He also encouraged residents to report any shops selling restricted products to minors or illegal vapes. If businesses need help with underage sales, they should reach out to the council. It’s all about keeping the community safe and informed.
