The annual duck race in Fishguard brought in £2,000 for the Wales Air Ambulance charity, delighting locals and visitors alike
Fishguard: Over a thousand plastic ducks raced down the River Gwaun during the annual Boxing Day Duck Race. It was organized by the Fishguard and District Round Table.
People gathered along the riverbanks in Lower Town, eager to see which duck would win the £100 prize. The Round Tablers had the chilly task of launching the ducks into the water.
But the real highlight was the £2,000 raised for the Wales Air Ambulance charity. Everyone was excited to watch the race unfold.
Duck 807, owned by Rachel, took home the top prize. Glenys Hughes’ Duck 94 came in second, winning £50. Howard Hughes snagged third place with Duck 119, earning £25.
Some ducks tried to escape, but this year, they mostly stayed on course. Spectators cheered from the banks, enjoying the festive atmosphere.
A spokesperson for the Round Table expressed gratitude to everyone who bought ducks and supported the event. They were thrilled with the £2,000 raised for the Wales Air Ambulance.
The Wales Air Ambulance provides lifesaving medical care across Wales, relying entirely on donations to keep their services running.
