The Cross City Line in Erdington is shut again after a lorry hit a bridge, marking the third incident in just two months.
Erdington: So, here we go again! The Cross City Line in Birmingham is closed after a lorry hit a bridge for the third time in just a couple of months. This happened around 10am today, and it’s getting a bit ridiculous, right?
West Midlands Railway had to shut down the northbound section, which affects trains going to Erdington, Sutton Coldfield, and Lichfield from Birmingham New Street. They were out of action for about an hour. But don’t worry, National Express West Midlands stepped in and accepted train tickets on their bus services while things got sorted out.
This isn’t the first time this bridge has been a problem. Just a few days ago, on January 3, another lorry hit it, causing a big mess for commuters. And let’s not forget the initial incident back in November when a lorry overturned, and the driver ended up being charged with drink-driving. Yikes!
West Midlands Railway kept everyone updated on social media, letting folks know that trains might be cancelled or delayed. They also mentioned that Network Rail was on its way to check if the bridge was safe.
Eventually, the bridge was deemed safe, and trains started running again, but at a slower speed. They warned that there could still be some delays, so it’s best to plan ahead if you’re traveling.
