Ivy Hart, Crewe’s oldest resident, received heartfelt wishes and gifts on her 105th birthday from the community and local schoolchildren.
Crewe: Celebrating a birthday is always fun, but Ivy Hart’s 105th was something special. The whole community came together to shower her with love and well-wishes.
Ivy had a fantastic party with family and friends, receiving an amazing 270 cards! The staff at Belong Care Village reached out to locals to make her day unforgettable, and boy, did they deliver!
Ivy shared her thoughts, saying, “For me, my age is just a number, and it keeps getting bigger. I’ve had a long life, and it’s all about being happy and enjoying what you have.”
Kids from Pebble Brook Primary School even sang Happy Birthday to her! There was live entertainment, gifts, and a special cake made by the village’s bistro team. Crewe Town Mayor, Cllr Dawn Clark, also popped in to share some lovely stories about Ivy.
Ivy was born just after WWI and has witnessed five monarchs and 23 prime ministers during her lifetime. Interestingly, just days after her birth, a new law allowed women to join professional bodies and sit on juries.
After losing her husband George, Ivy moved to Abergele in North Wales, where she focused on her dogs and singing in choirs. She later returned to Crewe to train as a teacher, helping boys with learning difficulties. Earlier this year, she moved to Belong Crewe, a dementia specialist care home.
Now, Ivy is one of about 600 people in England and Wales who are 105 or older, the last of those born before the 1920s.
Jessica Butler, the event organizer and experience coordinator at Belong Crewe, said, “Ivy is very dear to us, and we wanted everyone to share in her day and give her a nice surprise.”
She added, “Ivy’s sight and hearing aren’t what they used to be, so she loved receiving so many colorful cards, some even played music. We’re so grateful to everyone who made her day special!”
