Ramsbottom: Imagine just chilling at home, watching a Manchester City match, and then bam! Three masked guys burst in with baseball bats. That’s exactly what happened to a couple in their semi-rural home.

They were just trying to enjoy the game when these thugs demanded access to their safe. It turned into a nightmare as they ended up with serious injuries and lost some expensive stuff, including Rolex watches and a wedding ring.

The woman, still shaken, said it felt like something out of a movie. One of the intruders, Anthony Corkovic, was caught because he left blood behind after a scuffle with the husband, who bravely tried to protect his wife.

In court, it was revealed that the couple was just settling in for the match when the break-in happened. The husband was in the lounge, while his wife had gone upstairs feeling unwell. Then, out of nowhere, three guys in balaclavas stormed in.

One of them threatened the husband, saying he wanted the safe and wouldn’t hesitate to hurt him. They even claimed to have done their homework and knew the couple had money. It was terrifying.

Things got worse when one of the intruders went upstairs and found the wife asleep. She woke up to masked men telling her to get out of bed. They let her get dressed, but then one of them attacked her with a bat, hitting her in the knee and head.

When the husband heard her screams, he rushed to help. He fought back but ended up getting hit too. He lost his balance and fell down the stairs, hitting his head and losing consciousness. By the time he came to, the burglars were gone.

They took off with two Rolex watches worth a fortune, a wedding ring, and a bunch of cash. The police found blood at the scene, leading them to Corkovic, but the other two guys are still on the loose.

Both victims are left with bruises and a lot of emotional scars. The woman shared how she now struggles with PTSD and feels unsafe in her own home. She’s scared to go out and doesn’t like being alone.

Corkovic pleaded guilty to aggravated burglary but claimed he didn’t directly harm the victims. His lawyer said he felt extreme remorse and even wrote a letter to the couple, but they’ll decide if they want to read it.

With a history of offenses, Corkovic was sentenced to eight years in prison, plus an extra four years on license. The judge made it clear that the psychological impact on the woman would last a long time, maybe forever.

It’s a chilling reminder of how quickly things can turn dangerous, even in your own home.
