As heavy snowfall blankets Cork, local communities are coming together to support one another in these challenging conditions
Cork: The weather has really hit hard with a Status Yellow warning in place. But you know what? The folks in Cork are stepping up big time to help each other out.
People are checking in on their neighbors and clearing roads. It’s been so heartwarming to see everyone come together during this chilly spell.
In Charleville, neighbors are teaming up to clear the worst-hit roads. They’re using everything from heavy machinery to good old-fashioned shovels. Plus, they’re making sure vulnerable folks have what they need.
Over in North Cork, Mallow Search and Rescue is using their tough vehicles to get healthcare workers to their jobs. They’re making sure everyone gets the care they need, even with the icy roads.
Local businesses are also doing their part. They’re opening their doors to provide warm spaces and power for those without electricity. The Skibbereen Sports and Fitness Centre even offered showers to anyone who needed them.
Let’s not forget the emergency services and council crews. They’re working hard to keep our roads clear and ensure healthcare is available during this cold snap.
Gardaí are also out there, reminding everyone to be careful on the roads. They’ve been urging drivers to take it easy and stay safe.
A Garda spokesperson said it’s super important for drivers to know that road temperatures are much lower than air temperatures, making driving tricky.
They advised, “Stay home and cozy. If you have to go out, be prepared for icy roads. If your car starts sliding, stay calm and don’t panic.”
They also reminded everyone to use their horn to alert other drivers and to call for help if needed.
