Police in Torquay arrested 10 individuals and seized various drugs in a recent crackdown
Torquay: Police recently conducted a major operation. They arrested 10 people and seized drugs. The drugs included Spice, heroin, and cocaine.
Officers, both plainclothes and uniformed, focused on known trouble spots. They conducted stop and search operations around Castle Circus.
One man received a three-year prison sentence for possessing class A drugs with intent to supply. A drug dog named Ken helped sniff out drugs in the area.
Police executed warrants at suspected drug locations. They also set up road checkpoints to target vehicles carrying drugs.
In total, there were 26 stop searches. These resulted in the seizure of class A, B, and C drugs.
Chief Inspector Miranda Pusey leads neighborhood policing in South Devon. She emphasized that this operation was not a one-time event.
She explained that they used various tactics and specialist teams to tackle crime effectively. The goal was to disrupt criminal activities in a short time.
High visibility patrols were also part of the operation. Officers focused on identifying offenders and those wanted for arrest.
During the week, 10 people were dispersed under the Public Space Protection Order (PSPO). One arrest was made for breaching this order.
The PSPO allows police to disperse individuals causing trouble in the town center for up to 24 hours.
Chief Inspector Pusey expressed satisfaction with the operation’s impact on crime in Torquay. She highlighted the importance of visible police work in the community.
She reassured residents that police are adapting to criminals’ tactics. They will continue to use unpredictable methods to keep Torquay safe.
Public cooperation was crucial. Residents shared valuable information about suspected drug dealing and hotspots.
The operation began on January 20 and ended on January 26. Police plan to continue these proactive efforts throughout the year.
