So, it looks like a financial boost is on the way for many households! Cold Weather Payments have kicked in for 18 areas across the UK because of a big drop in temperatures. With snow on the horizon, this is a welcome relief for those who need it.

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is giving out £25 to qualifying homes when the temperature hits 0°C or lower for a week straight. And guess what? That’s exactly what’s happening right now!

Areas in the north of England, like Cumbria and Northumberland, are set to benefit. If you’re eligible, expect that bonus to land in your bank account within two weeks. Some parts of Scotland and northern England are even seeing temperatures drop below minus 8°C!

There’s also a yellow weather warning for snow and ice this weekend, covering most of England and all of Wales. The DWP has made it clear that these payments are automatic, so if you qualify, you don’t have to do anything extra.

To get the £25, you need to be receiving certain benefits like Pension Credit or Universal Credit. The money will show up in your bank statement within 14 days after each cold spell.

As we head into the weekend, the Met Office is predicting more cold weather, with snow starting Friday night and lasting into Sunday. Northern England might see quite a bit of snow!

Jason Kelly from the Met Office has warned that this weekend could bring a mix of weather hazards, including snow, freezing rain, and ice. So, if you’re in the affected areas, stay safe!

To qualify for the Cold Weather Payments, you need to live in England, Wales, or Northern Ireland. Each payment covers a seven-day period, and here’s a quick list of some postcode areas eligible for the payment from January 2 to 9.
