Meet Isaac Perry, a brave six-year-old from Colchester, who has overcome incredible challenges and is now celebrated for his courage
Isaac’s mom, Lucy, nominated him for a Cancer Research UK Star Award. She’s been there through every health scare, and it’s been an emotional ride for their family. Lucy works as a healthcare assistant and has seen firsthand how tough it’s been for her son.
After finishing his treatment in September, Isaac is now excited about getting a new prosthetic leg, which he calls his “robot” leg. It’s heartwarming to see him so eager for this new chapter.
Isaac was born with a lymphatic malformation that led to the amputation of his foot when he was just one. After recovering, he faced a serious E.coli infection that put him in septic shock. Later, he was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, a rare cancer that affects the blood.
He went through two years of chemotherapy, nine surgeries, and countless hospital visits. But through it all, he’s shown incredible resilience. Now, he’s back home with his family, including his dad Nial, who is his full-time carer, and his two siblings.
Lucy expressed how proud they all are of Isaac. He’s fought hard and continues to amaze them every day. She hopes he won’t have to face these battles again, but they’re ready to support him no matter what.
Isaac’s story is a testament to his bravery. He’s not just a survivor; he’s a little hero. Cancer Research UK’s Patrick Keely praised Isaac for his courage, saying it’s a privilege to celebrate his achievements. What a remarkable young man!
