A popular food shop in Cork faced closure due to serious rodent issues, but has since reopened after addressing health concerns
Cork: So, there was this popular food shop in Cork that got shut down because of some serious rodent problems. The HSE inspectors found evidence of pests during a routine check.
The place, called Cork Rooftop Farm, is an urban farm and organic grocery store. They had their inspection on December 20, and it didn’t go well. But don’t worry, they made the necessary changes and reopened on January 3.
The inspector’s report was pretty alarming. They mentioned that the shop didn’t have good hygiene practices, especially when it came to pest control. They found droppings in the oats and chewed-up packaging, which is definitely not what you want to see.
Rodent droppings were spotted along the walls in the back storage area, and there were holes and gaps everywhere, including a big one at the front door. Not exactly a welcoming sight, right?
The inspector was clear: the conditions posed a serious risk to public health. They had to issue an immediate closure order because the food could have been contaminated. Thankfully, after the shop fixed everything, they were allowed to reopen.
