Bar Nirvana in Barnstaple shuts down due to financial pressures and regulations
Barnstaple: So, there’s some pretty sad news coming out of Devon. Bar Nirvana, a beloved spot for live music and events, is closing its doors. The owner, David Matthews, shared the news on Facebook, saying they’re shutting down after a farewell night on January 11.
David mentioned that a mix of tough financial situations and strict council rules made it hard to keep the bar running. They had to remove their outside stage and lost some heated pods, which really added to the bar’s charm.
With the cost of living going up and new budget changes on the horizon, it’s just become too much for them. David stressed that this wasn’t an easy choice, but it reflects what many in the hospitality industry are facing right now.
On a brighter note, the escape room part of the business will still be open. David reassured everyone that they can still honor all bookings and keep taking new ones. He expressed gratitude for being part of so many people’s lives and events.
This closure is just one of many in Devon lately. The Bell Inn in Monkleigh is also shutting down, and the Heavitree pub in Exmouth just announced its closure too. It’s a tough time for bars and restaurants around here.
People are really upset about Nirvana closing, with many sharing their thoughts online. Some feel it’s a shame that council regulations have led to the loss of such a great venue. Others reminisced about the fantastic atmosphere and events they enjoyed there.
