Exciting changes are coming to a former youth hostel in Cornwall as new owners plan to enhance the community experience
Cornwall: Big news for the local community! A former youth hostel is getting new owners, and they’re the folks behind a popular beachfront pub. Starting in April, the old Youth Hostel Association building at Droskyn will be under fresh management.
The Perranzabuloe Parish Council has confirmed that Gramelan Limited, the team behind The Watering Hole in Perranporth, won the bid after a thorough selection process. They’re stepping in after the previous lease expired.
Don’t worry, the hostel will still offer accommodation. Plus, there are plans to create a community hub. Tommy Job from Gramelan mentioned they’ll share more details soon.
Gramelan will officially take over on April 1, 2025, with a nine-year lease at £35,000 a year. They’re also set to play a big role in some exciting community projects.
As part of their vision, they aim to keep the hostel running while also developing a community space. There was some chatter about the selection process, but the council has addressed those concerns.
A spokesperson for the council said they understand the community’s interest in the hostel and have shared details about how the decision was made. They want to keep everyone in the loop.
Tommy Job expressed excitement about the project, emphasizing their commitment to maintaining the hostel and enhancing community benefits.
Cllr Gaisford, chair of the parish council, added that the building is a cherished asset and looks forward to the new tenant continuing to provide accommodation and local jobs.
