An applicant for a children’s home in Solihull is set to find out if their plans will be approved after a paperwork mistake.
Solihull: So, there’s this guy, Shayne Flaherty, who wants to turn a house on Westbourne Road into a children’s home. He submitted his plans back in July, but things got a bit messy with the paperwork.
He included some nice images showing what the place would look like. There were plans for a staff office, a lounge, a kitchen, and even a games room. Sounds great, right? But then it came out that Shayne wasn’t actually the owner of the property. Oops!
A local resident caught the mistake and told the planning officers. The chairman of the planning committee, Councillor Bob Grinsell, was pretty concerned. He wondered how someone who can’t fill out a simple form could run a home for kids in care.
Mark Andrews, the head of planning, said Shayne fixed the mistake right away. He argued that it would be unfair to reject the application just because of that error. Plus, any care home would have to pass checks before kids could move in.
So, the committee decided to put the application on hold for a bit. Now, it’s back on the agenda for a meeting this Wednesday, January 8. The good news is that the site owner has confirmed he knows about the application and has no issues with it.
In fact, the application has been updated to fix the errors pointed out by residents. The officers are recommending that the scheme gets the green light, but with some conditions.
The meeting will be held at the Civic Suite at 6 PM, and anyone can come along or watch it live on the council’s website. Fingers crossed for Shayne!
