Cheddar: The Visitor Information Centre just had a fantastic year! They celebrated with a fun awards night, and guess what? They welcomed over 31,000 visitors this year, which is a 16% jump from last year. That’s more than double the number of folks who came in their first year!

All of this is thanks to the amazing local volunteers who run the place. They help visitors enjoy the stunning Cheddar Gorge. And it’s not just about the views; sales were up too! Walking guides were the top sellers, with over 1,100 flying off the shelves. The clifftop walk is a must-do, and many people come just for that experience.

During the awards night, there was a lovely buffet and a wildlife quiz. Volunteers were recognized for their hard work. Jim Scott and Carol Neslen took home the best sales team award, while others were honored for their commitment and teamwork. It was a night full of laughter and appreciation!

Lesley Miller even got a bouquet for her amazing work, especially for crocheting those cute Cheddar strawberry key rings. They sold 157 of them this year! The evening wrapped up with a hilarious game where teams built towers out of marshmallows and spaghetti.

Now, the VIC is closed for winter but will reopen in mid-February. If you’re interested in joining their friendly volunteer team, just shoot them an email at cheddarvicvolunteers@gmail.com.
