A charity reports thousands seek help monthly for energy bills as a new fund aims to improve home efficiency in the West Midlands
West Midlands: An energy charity is helping many people struggling with bills. Act On Energy receives thousands of calls each month for assistance. They’re excited about a new plan from Mayor Richard Parker to upgrade 10,000 homes for better energy efficiency.
This £167 million fund will improve the oldest homes. Upgrades include insulation, new doors, windows, solar panels, and smarter heating systems. Act On Energy helps about 20,000 people yearly, but many more likely need support.
During the fund announcement in Friar Park, Peter Forrest from Act On Energy spoke about the issue. He said many residents struggle to heat their homes properly. They often end up heating the outside instead of the inside.
Peter emphasized the importance of insulation and support. This scheme aims to provide long-term help, not just for this winter. It’s a great opportunity for those in need across the West Midlands.
He expressed concern about not being able to help everyone. With thousands of calls each month, the demand is high. The charity has people on the ground ready to assist households now and in the future.
Councillor Peter Hughes from Sandwell Council also shared his thoughts. He stated they are committed to fighting fuel poverty and climate change. Making homes more energy efficient is crucial for providing the necessary support to residents.
