The upcoming episode highlights a major drug operation in East England
Peterborough: So, there’s this episode of Channel 4’s 24 Hours in Police Custody coming up, and it’s all about a big drug bust. They’re focusing on a guy named Toby Bunting, who got caught up in a serious operation dealing crystal meth and cocaine.
The whole thing kicked off when some officers found a stash of drugs worth £10,000 in a car on the A47. That discovery led to a much bigger investigation by the Eastern Region Special Operations Unit. They ended up seizing over £1.5 million worth of drugs hidden in secret compartments of equipment coming into the UK.
It turns out this bust might even be linked to an international cartel from South America. Bunting, who’s 52 and from Park Road in Peterborough, was one of three men charged. He got two and a half years in prison last August after admitting to several drug-related charges and even having a firearm.
Two other guys, Axel Ritter Cruz and Daniel Fordham, also got prison time for their roles in the operation. Ritter Cruz was sentenced to 16 years for importing drugs, while Fordham got ten years for conspiracy to supply. It’s a pretty wild story.
Detective Chief Inspector Mick Birch from the ERSOU said crystal meth is super dangerous and they’re really focused on keeping it out of communities. The episode is set to air on January 13 at 9pm, so mark your calendars!
