An inquest reveals the cause of death for a couple found at their home in Poole, Dorset, raising questions about the circumstances.
Poole: A retired salesman, Michael Newton, was found dead with his wife, Heather, at their home. The inquest revealed he died from hanging. This tragic discovery happened on December 31 at their house on Anthony’s Avenue.
During the inquest at Bournemouth Town Hall, it was confirmed that Michael, 76, died from “suspension by ligature.” As for Heather, 70, the initial post-mortem couldn’t determine her cause of death, so more tests are being done.
Coroner’s officer Nicola Muller shared that police and paramedics responded to reports of an unresponsive couple. Family members identified them through photographs.
Coroner Brendan Allen has postponed the full inquests until July 22, waiting for the post-mortem results. Meanwhile, police forensic teams were seen examining the couple’s home, including their car and a boat parked outside.
Flowers were left at the entrance of their driveway, showing the community’s support. Neighbors described the Newtons as a “pleasant” couple, and their sudden deaths shocked everyone.
Detective Inspector Ian Allen from Dorset Police expressed his condolences, stating they are doing everything possible to support the family. He added that there’s no indication of anyone else being involved in this sad incident.
