Carol Vorderman opens up about her skin cancer scare and the importance of sun safety
Liverpool: Carol Vorderman recently had a serious health scare that really shook her up. At 63, she’s been reflecting on her past sunbathing habits, which she admits were pretty reckless.
She shared that growing up, there wasn’t much awareness about sun protection. Back in her day, people would slather on cooking oil to get a tan, thinking it was harmless. It wasn’t until she hit her 50s that she faced a skin cancer scare.
After noticing some changes in her skin, she visited a dermatologist. The biopsy results were alarming—she had precancerous cells. Carol described hearing that word as “very frightening.”
But instead of wallowing in fear, she’s using her experience to educate others about sun safety. She’s had the cells removed and now gets regular check-ups. Carol emphasizes the importance of using SPF and covering up, even if the damage is already done.
It’s also a personal issue for her. Her mother passed away from three types of cancer, including melanoma, despite never sunbathing. Carol knows that everyone’s skin is different, and she’s determined to spread the word about being safe in the sun.
