Carol Kirkwood surprised a swimming group in Hornsea, leaving them emotional and grateful for their community.
She headed to Hornsea to meet Kate and Jackie, the founders of the Hornsea Dolphins, a women’s swimming group.
This group has really taken off, now boasting over 400 members who brave the chilly waters together.
When Carol surprised Kate and Jackie on the beach, they were totally taken aback. She wasn’t there for a regular interview; she was there to celebrate them!
As she announced, “I’m here on behalf of The One Show to give you our One Big Thank You!” the crowd erupted in cheers.
Kate and Jackie were so moved, they couldn’t help but tear up. Kate shared how incredible the group is, saying, “The friendships that have been formed, the fun that we have… you would not think that Hornsea would have it in it.”
Jackie chimed in, saying, “It’s changed not our lives, but all our lives.”
Later, Carol took them to a café where they watched heartfelt messages from friends and family. Kate was on the verge of tears when she saw a surprise video from her sister in Spain.
With tears in her eyes, she expressed her gratitude, saying, “From the bottom of, I’m sure, both our hearts, thank you so very, very much. You’re all absolutely amazing friends and we love you.”
Tracey Riley, a member of the Hornsea Dolphins, nominated Kate and Jackie for creating such a supportive environment.
Anna Chipchase mentioned that they swim every single day of the year, while Nicola Marrow highlighted the deep friendships formed through the group.
