Newton House Care Home’s Winter Warmer Cafe combats winter loneliness by offering a warm space for community connections and refreshments.
This café started in January and helps fight loneliness during winter. People often stay inside to keep warm, so the café gives them a place to connect.
Lara Masucci, who manages the home, said they care about the community. The café lets folks meet others and enjoy drinks and warmth together.
The café is open to all, offering soup, bread, homemade goodies, tea, and coffee, all made fresh.
Helen Weswater, who lives nearby and chairs the Mearns Village Community Association, visited the café quickly and called it warm and inviting.
Helen said everyone is friendly, and people can meet wonderful folks while enjoying soup and coffee. Helen, who has lived there her whole life, is the fourth generation in her family to live there.
Helen befriended the staff, residents, and visitors and tells everyone about the café, saying it really helps the community.
Kerry-Anne McDade, who coaches wellbeing at Newton House, is happy it’s doing well. They want more people to visit and chat there, valuing their local people and believing the café brings them together.
The café is open on Wednesdays from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., so you can go there to enjoy the community.
