A car fire on the Edinburgh City Bypass during rush hour led to significant delays and road closures for commuters this morning
Edinburgh: A car caught fire on the Edinburgh City Bypass this morning, causing quite a stir during rush hour. It happened just before 7 am, and let me tell you, it really slowed things down for commuters.
Emergency services rushed to the scene near Straiton after getting reports of a vehicle that was “well alight.” Two fire engines showed up, one from Liberton and the other from Dalkeith, and they got right to work putting out the flames.
Luckily, no one was hurt. Traffic cameras even caught smoke rising into the morning sky while the firefighters did their thing. A driver passing by alerted Traffic Scotland, saying both lanes were blocked due to the fire engines being there.
Traffic Scotland issued a warning about the closure, saying delays were around 19 minutes. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they got the call at 6:44 am and had crews on the scene quickly.
Police also chimed in, advising folks to steer clear of the area. If you’re commuting, it’s best to find another route for now. Stay safe out there!
