A couple faces a £500 bill after their easyJet flight to Birmingham was cancelled, leaving them stranded in Tunisia for days.
Tunisia: So, there’s this couple who got stuck in Tunisia after their easyJet flight to Birmingham got cancelled. They ended up spending an extra £500 because of it. Natasha Carr and her partner were really frustrated after waiting five days for a flight back home. They were supposed to fly back on January 5, but instead, they had to hang around for four more nights.
Natasha, who’s from Acocks Green, said the weather was nice, which was a small silver lining. But still, they were really disappointed with how easyJet handled everything. Her partner, a teacher, missed the start of term, and they had to pay £350 for a hotel, plus food and transport, since easyJet only covered one night’s stay.
They just couldn’t believe they had to stay for three extra days with no proper communication from the airline. Natasha mentioned that while they could afford it, not everyone is in the same boat. They were told easyJet would reimburse them for a three-star hotel, but they had originally booked a five-star place, so they felt that wasn’t fair.
They arrived at the airport hours before their flight, only to be hit with delays. After checking in their luggage, they found out their flight was cancelled at 9 PM. It was a mess! The airport staff didn’t even know about the cancellation until passengers started showing them notifications from the easyJet app.
Natasha said they managed to book a flight for the closest date, but others were told they wouldn’t get home until January 16. Some passengers even had to take a flight to Bristol, which is over 100 miles away from Birmingham. It was chaos!
They only got one night of hotel accommodation through the easyJet app, and they had to pay for a taxi to get there. Now, they’re stuck paying for three more nights out of their own pockets. Natasha’s partner can’t go back to work, and they feel let down by easyJet’s lack of support.
In response, easyJet said the cancellation was due to bad weather at Birmingham Airport and that they tried to help affected customers. They offered refunds and alternative flights, but it seems like many passengers were left in the lurch.
It’s a tough situation, and they’re just hoping to get reimbursed soon. If anyone else has faced similar issues, they’re encouraged to reach out and share their experiences.
